New beginnings for WFHS…
It was a game of new beginnings. The Coyotes, following a disappointing
performance against Frisco Wakeland, said that this week would be different.
They got their starting quarterback, Dylan Sheffield, back under center. They
broke out some sweet-looking uniforms for this one. They even dropped a little
single wing on their opponents. But, in the end, it turned out to be the Mark
Czaus show as Bishop Lynch defeated Wichita Falls High School here Friday night
by a final score of 48-26.
In the days leading up to the game, it was reported on just how good a player
Czaus is. But, as it is with most things, seeing is believing. Czaus finished
the night with 200 yards rushing on 21 carries, and three touchdowns. He spent
most of the night running as the team’s quarterback. On occasion, he would line
up as a slot receiver, and when he did, he caught three passes for eighteen
yards.
In the middlle of the third quarter, this was a close game. The Coyotes had just
scored to close the dedficit to a 27-26 contest. It also marked the last time it
was a close game. Bishop Lynch then scored the next 21 points, aided in part by
six Coyote turnovers to put this one away.
“It was ugly. Any time you give a team points like we did off turnovers, it’s
hard to win,” WFHS head coach Jayson Lavender said. “We are playing with young
kids, but that’s no excuse. I have to do a better job of getting them ready to
play. There are a lot of good things happening in this program. It will
translate onto the field someday.”
Sheffield threw for 243 yards in his return to action. Two Coyote receivers
broke the 100 yard mark, as Diondre Singleton and Bubba Mathis had 101 and 105
yards respectively.
The Coyotes will now turn their focus to district play in 4-4A, as they welcome
The Colony to Memorial Stadium this Friday night. The Coyotes defeated The
Colony last season. Their current record now stands at 1-3.
