Bishop Lynch HS vs. Witchita Falls HS
Tonight’s game at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls features a reunion and an
ending, all in one. It’s a chance for Boship Lynch’s Mark Czaus to become
re-acquainted with the Wichita Falls head coach Jayson Lavender. It also is the
last game before district play begins next week versus The Colony.
“He is a great athlete,” Lavender aid of the Bishop Lynch senior. “He played
quarterback for them the first two weeks when their normal quarterback was
injured, but he can also line up at running back or receiver.” Czaus has played
a role in nine touchdowns over the first three weeks of the season.
The Friars, ranked number 2 in Texas among private 11-man teams by
pigskinprep.com, come in to tonight’s game with a 3-0 record.
The Coyotes hope to have their starter, Dylan Sheffield, back under center
tonight. He missed last week’s game against Frisco Wakeland with a non-football
related injury. If Sheffield can’t go tonight, Jerod Frank will get the start
for the Coyotes.
After opening the season with a 59-35 win over Burkburnett, the Coyotes have
fallen to Lawton MacArthur and Frisco Wakeland. A win tonight would give them a
2-2 record, and set the table nicely for district play.
Offensively, the Coyotes will rely on Bubba Mathis (11.9 ypc, 1 TD) and Diondre
Singleton (15.4 ypc, 2 TD’s). On the defensive side of the ball, the Coyotes
will once again rely on the all-around game of Daulton Davidson. He had 12 solo
tackles in the game against Lawton. Davidson will also be aided by linebacker
Chris Vasquez, who recorded two interceptions last week against Frisco.
The Coyotes are at home, and with Sheffield back at the controls, they will find
the timing that they had in the Burkburnett game. I’m taking the Coyotes to
defend their Memorial Stadium turf.
