What a difference a year can make…
What a difference a year can make. Take the Mansfield Tigers, for example. After
securing their first ever playoff win against the highly touted Abilene Eagles in
2008, the next season was full of promise. After a broken collar bone sidelined
their star half-back, things went spiraling downhill with a one win season.
Welcome to 2010. Their are many fresh faces now, consisting of a considerably
younger roster than that of the 2008 season. To say that this year has started well
is an understatement. The first four games of the season have all been wins of 40
points or more, and they just earned their first district win with a victory over
neighboring Mansfield Timberview.
Their offense was firing on all cylinders. After dominating the first half,
the Tigers’ final offensive play was a lob to the back of the end zone to 6’5″ tight
end Hassan Ridgeway for the two point conversion. (Score shown in photo) This
junior’s reach and size are best suited for his position although he is primarily
being used on the line as defensive end. He is receiving a lot of playing time and
will be an offensive option to go to in key situations.
Notables: Mansfield – Hassan Ridgeway TE two point conversion catch; TB Damon
Bullock 124 yds, 2 TDs, 1 passing TD, 1 INT; WR Julio Quintana 59 yds, 1 TD /
Mansfield Timberview – WR Chaz Sampson 88 yds, 2 TDs; WR Sean Roland 94 yds, 1 TD;
QB Charles Taylor 246 yds, 2 TDs, 1 INT
