Guyer edges Horn…
A great match up of two 5A powerhouses collided for a classic game of ties,
lead changes, and offensive prowess. Guyer’s defense littered the game with 50
yards in penalties in the first half and finishing with 70 total. However, the
outcome came down to Guyer’s J.W. Walsh and a game winning drive with a minute
to play.
Eating up chunks of yardage with a final play derived from 7-on-7, Guyer’s QB
Walsh found senior wide out Quint Gardener in the back of the end zone for an
exhilarating 34-31 victory at C.H. Collins Athletic Complex in Denton. This victory
was just the lift Guyer needed after falling to Cedar Hill in an overtime loss at
Cowboys Stadium on Labor Day.
Guyer looks to make a statement after being realigned to 5A status for the
first time in school history last February, and they have the tools to do so.
Senior QB J.W. Walsh welcomes the challenge in a tough district and look for the
junior wide out Conner Crane to make some noise this year as he will be touted as
the go to receiver next season.
