It’s Miller Time!

Under the direction of 2nd year head coach, Rodney Webb, the 2-0 Mesquite Horn Jaguars seem to have started this season with the same gusto that led them to the state playoffs nearly a year ago. The centerpiece behind the Jaguars’ success has been the outstanding performance of senior quarterback, Emory Miller. Last week against 15th ranked Lake Highlands, Miller was 33 of 38 (87% completion ratio) and threw for 364 yards and 5 touchdowns to four different receivers, earning him Player of the Week honors at Next Level Athlete and Fox 4 News’ High School Hero of the Week. “Emory has a very high football intellect, grace under pressure, and a tremendous competitive spirit. Emory gets the ball where it needs to go and makes great decisions, giving us total confidence in our play-calling” said Webb. According to the Horn coaching staff, Emory has become a student of the game who is constantly working to get better. “His work ethic and dedication to preparation each week are unmatched, he is a first here last to leave type of kid” said offensive coordinator, Cody Moore. Essential to the success of any great offensive system is a solid defense. Last week against a highly touted Wildcat offense led by QB Rickey Zorn and Desmond Roland, the Jag’s defense allowed only14 points and 114 yards through the air. The culmination of go to wide receivers such as Jihmel Pullins and a strong defense have allowed Miller to pile up 615 yards through the air on 55 of 69 attempts and 101 yards on the ground for 9 total touchdowns. Not a bad start for a senior who is looking forward to playing at the next level. Emory and his 13th ranked Mesquite Horn Jags will now set their sites on the Pirates from Wylie, set to kick off Friday night.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

Emory Miller (JHHS) Jihmel Pullins (JHHS) Vincent Hobbs (JHHS) Desmond Rolins (Lake Highlands) Darius Baines (Lake Highlands)
