Lobos squeeze past the Jags…
Longview Lobo head coach John King continues to be undefeated in district play. His
Lobos battled a strong Mesquite Horn (4-3, 1-1) squad to improve it’s record to
(4-3, 2-0). The Lobos high powered offense saw some great defense matchup with it’s
gameplan. When it seemed as though the Lobos would march down the field and score,
the Jaguars responded with a stop. Late in the first quarter, the Lobos were in
scoring position, but on 4th and 3 Lobo QB Ladarrin Robertson was sacked for a loss
by Richard Jones of Horn. After a turnover on downs, the Lobos powered their way
down the field for 73-yards on just 9 plays. J’Haston Faggans (21-101-2) lead the
drive with 35 yards rushing and the score (7-0).
It wasn’t until the 2nd half the Jags put the ball in it’s top player’s hands.
JaCorey Shepherd (Univ. of Kansas) went 3 catches for 10 yards and WR Jakeem Grant.
When the Jags took it’s first big shot down the field it paid off. QB Destri White
connected with WR Demetris Griffin
on a 61-yard beauty (7-6). However, the very next play wasnt a field goal, the Jags
went for 2 points and converted (7-8). 4th quarter Lobos showing promise as the
offense clicked on all levels. WR Blaine Tomlinson rips a catch out the air for
several yards to set up a Faggans 15 yard TD run, to give the Lobos the lead (13-8).
The Jags try to respond, but Ja’Quale Darden comes up with a huge interception to
stop the drive. Final possession for the Jags…4th and 2 with :54 secs left in the
game, White gets stopped by a gang of Lobos lead by LB Cameron Jones to end the game
(13-8).
