Longview… Lufkin!
Longview…Lufkin, Longview…Lufkin, again I say Longview…Lufkin.
Once again the Longview Lobos (1-2) are preparing to head 59 south to take on those
Lufkin Panthers (3-0). No Jamarkus McFarland (Oklahoma), no Aaron Johnson (Houston)
and no Carey Fortson (LA Tech). However the Texas showdown will still feature some
of the best athletes in the state.
Coach John King (Longview) tells nextlevelathlete.com that this is a special
rivalry, “Players, coaches and fans… a lot of respect for all parties involved, but
no love lost.”
Last year the Lobo’s defeated the Panthers in a hard fought game and this year,
hopefully won’t be any different.
“We can’t give the game away by making stupid mistakes,” explains King. “Turnovers,
giving up big plays, break-downs in the kicking game etc.”
The Lobos are coming off losses against John Tyler and Allen. This preseason has
been a tough one, but it’s preparing the Lobos for a strong 5A campaign. Coach King
and the coaching staff say they are pushing the boys in practice for tomorrow’s big
game.
“Non-district is about getting better each week. We did that last week, but we’re
not looking for moral victories. The only thing that will be excepted is WINNING,”
said a passionate King. “Players and coaches don’t need to lose focus or confidence
in the process. We all knew this would be a difficult stretch in our season, WHAT
DON’T KILL YA, ONLY MAKES YOU TOUGHER.”
The Lobos are a tough team, look for them as they prepare to take on athletic and
fierce Panther squad.
