In their first playoff appearance since 1983, Newman Smith HS (4A) certainly didn’t show a lack of experience on the big stage. With outstanding performances from Al Lasker, Aldo Quiroga and Randall Joyner, the Trojans showed the dimensions of an offense that could take them deep into the playoffs. The Trojan defense wasn’t too shabby either, tallying 3 interceptions and keeping constant pressure on Sheman’s senior quarterback, Madison Carter. Sherman did; however, show one bright spot in junior running back, Zac Whitfield. Whitfield racked up 169 yards on the ground but it wasn’t enough to hold off Newman Smith as they went on to win 56-35.
