Next Level Athlete finished up their 2009 Showcase line-up on Sunday at Longview High School’s Lobo Stadium. The first annual East Texas Showcase produced several high profile prospects from the region. This event seemed to be more about quality over quantity, although the turnout was relatively smaller than a typical NLA Showcase, the prospects that attended certainly impressed. “This was somewhat of a pilot event for us, we are just now starting to penetrate the East Texas market in response to requests from several colleges” said Justin Simons of Next Level Athlete. “As expected, we discovered several boys that can definitely play at the next level.” It is no secret to college coaches that some of Texas’ finest talent comes out of the eastern region, the challenge for scouts; however, is gaining effective evaluations early in the recruiting process due to limited number of high schools that participate in spring football practices. “We hope that as our East Texas reach continues to grow, more and more prospects from this region will be able to get on the recruiting radar earlier due to their workouts being filmed.” “In effect, these workouts may allow college scouts to evaluate the physical attributes of an athlete that they would have otherwise seen during a spring practice,” said Simons. Next Level Athlete will begin scheduling their 2010 Showcase lineup in the months to follow.
