NORTH TEXAS – Sanger wins big over Hirschi…
NORTH TEXAS - What started out to be a promising game for the Hirschi Huskies quickly turned into more of the same song as an early 6-0 lead over Sanger quickly evaporated into a 38-6 season opening loss. The game wasn’t the only thing the Huskies lost, either. Starting quarterback Trey Thomas was hit hard on the second play of the second half and didn’t return. Thomas’ pass to Shane Clement in the first quarter was the only score the Huskies could manage. It wasn’t as if Sanger looked like they wanted to win this game, either. Their five first-half fumbles, three of which were recovered by Hirschi, snuffed out early scoring chances for the Indians. But, once the first quarter was in the books, the Indiand came alive with a 24 point quarter, highlighted by Jon Garza’s 52 yard punt return for a touchdown. Dane Evans, the Sanger quarterback, picked up where he left off last season, as he finished the night with 261 yards passing, and three touchdowns, to go along with his 32 rushing yards on six carries. For Hirschi, Kiran Spence and Dominique Bobo came on to try to revive the offense when Thomas went out. Both quarterbacks led their team to the red zone, but came away empty as miscues and a tough Sanger defense turned them away. The loss is the 26th out of 27 games for Hirschi. They will try to rebound next Friday night at home as they will host Ponder.
