Stony Point Wins State 7on7 Title!
Stony Point High School edged out Cy Fair High School to take the State 7on7 title in what proved to be an exciting contest that came down to the wire. Carrying over their momentum from a big win over De Soto High School in the semi-finals, Stony Point executed big plays on offense and the necessary defensive stops that proved to be the winning formulation of a 7on7 championship team. SPHS’s win didn’t come easily, however; with 5:46 left in the game Cy Fair made a defensive stop that appeared to be the breaking point in the game. With time ticking down in the second half, Cy Fair took control on offense with a 31-26 lead. Methodically marching the ball down the field Cy Fair appeared to be well on their way to the title when a Blake Reese pass was picked off and taken in for a score. With 30 seconds left in the game, Stony Point capitalized by capping off the score with a successful conversion that resulted in a 33-31 lead and a state 7on7 title.
