WFHS vs Lake Highlands recap…
Before the game between the Falcons and the Coyotes, many thought that
this could be a pivotal game in District 4-4A’s playoff race. When the final
seconds ticked down at Lake Dallas, the Falcons let it be known that they
would be a factor in the playoff race. Lake Dallas jumped out to an early
13-0 lead and never looked back as they defeated the Coyotes by a final
sscore of 51-21.
Lake Dallas took the opening kickoff, and used a Dontonio Jordan 48
yard touchdown pass to take an early lead. The Coyotes were able to drive
the field on their ensuing possession, but on first-and-goal from the six,
Coyote quarterback Dylan Sheffield was intercepted in the end zone by safety
Daevon Parrish, who returned the ball to mid-field. Four plays later, the
Falcons were back in the end zone, their first of three touchdowns off of
Coyote mistakes.
The bright spot for the Coyotes came off of the efforts of junior wide
receiver Diondre Singleton, who caught 14 passes for 177 yards and a
touchdown. Sheffield finished with 280 yards passing. The Coyote outgained
the Falcons in the passing department, but the Falcons controlled the ground
and the clock, as they rolled up a whopping 339 yards on 44 carries. Senior
running back Tyler Waller finished with 124 yards on 12 carries, with one
touchdown.
For the Coyotes, their playoff hopes are all but dashed as they now
look to play spoiler in the district race. They will host district leader
Denton Ryan this week at Memorial Stadium before their season ending
showdown with cross-town rival Rider. With the loss, the Coyotes fall to 2-6
(1-3). The Falcons improve to 4-5 (3-2).
