Wichita Falls loses to Frisco Wakeland…
The stage was set Friday night for a good, old fashioned shootout between Frisco Wakeland and Wichita Falls High School. With a top-notch venue (Pizza Hut Park), and two quarterbacks who loved to throw the ball around the yard the stage was set.
When pre-game warm-up’s were taking place, and the Coyotes QB, Dylan Sheffield was not dressed in his pads, the question then turned to backup QB Jerrod Frank. Frank finished the night 15 for 26 for 46 yards as the Coyotes lost to Frisco 35-0. The game pretty much turned on the first play of the second half. Wakeland entered the locker room at the half up 14-0, and took the field to kick off to the Coyotes for the second half. Wakeland’s Coach Secord, rolled the dice and came up big as he went for an on-side kick out of a “normal” kick-off formation. When Wakeland recovered, it set the stage for the Coyote defense to spend an inordinate amount of time on the field in the second half. Frisco quarterback Tyler Kirkendoll finished the night 27-41-317 with 4 TD passes. It marked his second week of surpassing the 300 yard mark in passing. He was helped by a steady rushing attack that saw six players combine for a 36 carry, 165 yard night on the ground. For the Coyotes, Chris Vasquez stood out, as he intercepted Kirkendoll twice. Sean Swarthout also recovered a fumble for the Coyotes. The Coyotes will complete their non-district schedule next week at home versus Bishop Lynch. They will begin District 4-4A play at home in two weeks against The Colony.
